Dreaming is free - Finding my Calling

Growing up one of the most common phrases that floated around our home was, "Dreaming is free!". This phrase became my lifeblood and now I help make other people's dreams a reality.

Growing up in Rural Manitoba my sisters and I were often left to our imagination to entertain ourselves as well as create the world that we desired. We lived in a tiny town of 100 people and the nearest Walmart was over an hour away, suffice to say if we wanted something we had to plan or create it ourselves. This challenged my organization skills and creativity at a young age. As the firstborn I naturally became the leader - responsible, dependable, and always ready to take charge. Even from an early age I came to understand the importance of collaboration and leveraging the skills of those around me. My sister was the creative brainpower behind all our adventures, as individuals we were strong, but together we were unstoppable. For years she would cast the vision, and I would come behind and make it a reality, whether it was imaginative play or planning games/events. Though my sister was hard working and capable, I came to find I was able to piece together the intricate path from vision to execution. Sometimes it is a mystery, but I love the challenge and will spend hours researching and learning new skills to find a solution.

This can-do attitude took me all the way through school and university. During University my summer business internship fell through because the business closed, however I found a small non-profit that was looking for some admin support, while looking for other work that summer. I distinctly remember walking into the office and being handed a laptop and a small desktop file folder, here you go. By the end of the summer, that small non-profit became a thriving charity, and outgrew the desktop file folder.

I found my calling, taking someone's passion and vision and making it into a living and tangible reality.
